French Conversation 1

We meet on the first and third Monday of the month from 2.30, usually at my home. All our group members are fairly fluent and able to take part in discussions on a variety of topics.

We are all keen Francophiles, and those who can, take every opportunity to go to France Most of us have either studied or worked in France or a French speaking country, had a house in France, or have simply loved various contacts with the country over may years. Some of us are involved in the Leatherhead-Triel Twining and have taken part in the exchanges.

Our meetings are mainly based on a magazine for English readers, called La Vie Outre-Manche (Life across the Channel) to which we all subscribe. This supplies us with the basis for our discussions.

We take it in turn to choose an article from the current magazine, usually a week before our meetings, in order to do some indepedent research.

Its not as serious as it sounds! There is also general chat, crosswords, word puzzles, and an annual celebration of Bastille day, with lots of French food! Our toast is, of course, with kir republicain rather than with kir royale.
