This meeting is organised by Surrey u3a Network for representatives of all our u3a members plus all individual members who would like to learn more about physical exercise and how it helps healthy ageing which is supportive of our ethos that is embodied in our strapline of “Learn, Laugh & Live”.
Introducing Norman – At an age when most people are retired Norman, at 70, returned to university to do research, at professorial level, on Healthy Human Ageing. He has now been at King’s College London for 17 years. The work of Norman and his colleagues has been widely reported in newspapers and TV in the UK and abroad.
Norman has wide experience of the Pharmaceutical Industry having worked for the Wellcome Foundation for many years. He was Head of Diabetes Research, Biochemical Research and Cell Biology. After Wellcome he was Head of the Food Chemical Unit in the Department of Health. This unit provided advice to Ministers on the potential toxicological effects on health of both added and natural chemicals in food.
He is an Audax UK Veteran Cycling Champion and at 86 still spends time on his bike cycling around the Surrey countryside. In 2018 Norman was elected by an independent panel to the Sunday Times Alternate Rich List.
There is no charge, but it would help the volunteers organising tea or coffee and biscuits if they knew numbers in advance. Please email your name or names and u3a name to surreyu3astudyday@btinternet.com .
