A Visit to Highclere Castle

We are visiting Highclere Castle for a day. Well known for being the location for the very popular TV Series Downton Abbey.
However it is, of course, the very beautiful home, belonging to the 8th Earl of Carnarvon. It is Grade 1 listed. Was built in 1679 and largely renovated during the 1840s with the park designed by Capability Brown in the 18th century.
There is also an exhibition about Tutankhamun due to the fact that the 5th Earl of Carnarvon who helped fund the search, was with Howard Carter when they discovered the Tomb of Tutankhamun.

Our tickets will only give us access to the house and gardens, as I assumed that not everybody will wish to visit the Egyptian Exhibition. For those of you who do, when you arrive you will be able to book the exhibition separately at a cost of £7.00.
