The Explore London Walking Group 4 was formed in May 2007 and led for three years by Vivienne. Subsequently it was led by Patricia and Ian and then by Sue and Gill and now by Gill and Ian. The aim of the Group is to travel to London and explore on foot, in a relaxed, friendly social atmosphere, a specific area of interest, interspersed with coffee and lunch breaks. What makes the walks particularly interesting is the sharing of knowledge that each member has of different parts of London.

We aim to walk between three and five miles and over the years have explored many parts of the City, the West End and Soho, a well as South London, the Thames, the canals and the mainline railway stations. Yet still each month, members come up with interesting, new and well researched areas to explore and when there are interesting buildings or exhibitions to be viewed we may look in. We meet on the first Thursday of each month and in January, instead of travelling to London we meet in a member’s home for a wine and bring-a-dish social while we plan our walks for the coming year. In the summer we have a walk to Explore Outside of London.

The Group’s numbers has varied over time with up to eighteen members and now we have some vacancies. Members are encouraged to research and lead at least one outing each year and these are generally run by two members to help both in the planning on a reconnaissance trip and during the actual walk. Contact Gill or Ian if you would like to join our happy band.
